The Shawano Community High School boys and girls track and field teams each placed third at the Bay Conference Championships on May 14 in West De Pere.

The boys team scored 97½ points, while the girls tallied 95 points.

Elliott Lowney led the boys team with two first-place finishes. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.91 seconds, and took the 200 title in 22.27 seconds.

“It was just so rewarding to finally get a win at the conference meet. Last year I took second three times, and I knew I wasn’t going to let that happen again,” said Lowney. “Even better that I broke the school record in the 100 while doing it. And it wasn’t just me having success, everyone was doing so well.”

Isabel Roloff won two events to lead the Shawano girls. She claimed the 100 dash in 12.33 seconds and cleared 11-6 in the pole vault to take first.

“Winning the conference (titles) means a lot to me, because it encourages me to work harder and strive for more,” said Roloff. “It shows me that my hard work in practice has paid off. Winning these titles also gives me more confidence as regionals and sectionals approach.”

The Shawano girls 4x800 relay team placed first in 10:12.93.

Back on the boys side, Riley Siegfried took first in the pole vault (11-9). Jackson Smits earned first in discus with a throw of 148-8.

Placing second for the Shawano girls was Grace Beyer in the 800 (2:30.6) and Lily Guenther in the 3,200 (12:31.82).

Guenther finished third in the 1,600 (5:55.12). The 4x400 relay team took third in 4:25.79.

The boys 4x100 relay team placed second in 45.27 seconds. Will Chelberg claimed second in the 3,200 (10:42.62).

Chelberg also took third in the 1,600 (4:43.29). The boys 4x800 relay team placed third in 9:04.16.
