Shawano landfill reopened

SHAWANO — The Shawano landfill was open for business again Tuesday, two weeks after a hauler damaged a structural beam supporting the garbage and recycling transfer station.

City staff had expected the repairs to take at least five weeks, but moved along faster than expected after Chuck Felts of Felts Construction in Shawano reached out to his contacts with Boldt Construction in Madison.

After some repairs, a structural engineer inspected the facility and determined that it is safe for operations, according to a statement from the city.

The city also offered its thanks to Felts Construction and Bolt Construction for their immediate response in completing the repairs.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation during this temporary shutdown,” the city wrote in a press release.
