Alicia Hanson, a Shawano Community High School graduate and current student at UW-Green Bay, recently was recognized with a University Leadership Award.

The ceremony that was set to take place on May 15 was cancelled, so UWGB and the Office of Student Life will instead honor the recipients online and through social media from May 8-15.

Hanson — a fifth-year senior, who also competed on the women’s swim team her first four years of college — and the rest of the University Leadership Award recipients needed a cumulative grade-point average of over 3.0 to qualify.

More than 600 students were nominated for awards, which recognize academic achievement and campus and community contributions. Faculty, staff and other students can nominate students for the awards.

Hanson currently owns top-10 times in three events in UWGB women’s swimming and diving history.

She has the fourth-fastest 50-yard freestyle (23.27 seconds) and 100 freestyle (51.06) times, and comes in fifth in the 100 butterfly (55.53).
