Shawano girls tennis team falls short against FVL

The Shawano Community High School girls tennis team dropped a tight Bay Conference match to Fox Valley Lutheran on Thursday in Shawano.

FVL claimed the No. 3 doubles match to earn a 4-3 victory.

Shawano's No. 1 and 2 doubles teams each picked up hard-fought wins.

Anna Cuenca and Grace Licausi teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-4, 6-3 win over FVL's Amelia Segelstrom and Kylie Toyne. Elise Pyatskowit and Jillian Black formed Shawano's No. 2 doubles team that earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ruth Brink and Deb Brink.

Shawano's No. 3 doubles team was Anna Etten and Ava Huntington, a pair of first-year varsity players. The duo lost the first set 6-1 to FVL's Lydia Witthuhn and Elizabeth Oakland, but bounced back, taking the second set 6-3. The Shawano team ended up on the wrong side of a 6-3 final set.

The Hawks didn't fare as well in singles play, but Sarah Carroll was able to grind out a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Natalis Fenske.

Shawano's Nicole Piantek suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Adeline Woosley at No. 3 singles, while Kate Williams and Rylie Anderson dropped 6-0, 6-1 matches at No. 2 and 1 singles, respectively. Anderson was topped by Olivia Pethan and Williams lost to Macey Schaetz.
