Ashton Henning came through in a pair of big situations to help Shawano edge Crivitz 6-5 on Tuesday at Memorial Park in Shawano.

The win was the third straight for Shawano, which is now 3-1 for the summer.

With Crivitz runners on second and third and only one out in the seventh inning, Henning struck out back-to-back batters to help Shawano hold on.

“I was just trying to stay focused, pound the zone and throw strikes,” said Henning of his mindset on the mound.

Henning also delivered a game-tying two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth before crossing the plate later in the frame to give Shawano the lead.

“Just trying to put the ball in play and then trying to run the bases as hard as I can,” said Henning, who reached base in all four of his plate appearances.

Zach Erdmann was Shawano’s starting pitcher for the contest, tossing two straight scoreless innings to begin his night.

The hosts gave Erdmann some run support in the bottom of the second, doing all the damage with two outs. Carson Popp drew a walk before Ethan DeMunck courtesy ran for him. DeMunck moved up two bases on passed balls before Ian Reinders drove him in on a single.

“I was just looking for a ball to hit knowing that we needed some runners on to get the lead. I saw a pitch to drive and took it,” said Reinders.

Joey Sperberg then reached base on an error. He and Reinders each crossed home plate after wild pitches.

Crivitz answered with four runs in the third, taking advantage of three walks. The visitors added a run in the fourth off new Shawano pitcher Sperberg, but the lefty settled in quickly after, which allowed the Hawks to surge ahead and then stay ahead into the seventh inning.

Shawano pitchers struck out 10 batters in the contest. Erdmann had five punchouts overs three innings, before Sperberg tallied 3 strikes over three-plus frames.

On Monday, Shawano topped St. Mary’s 6-2 at Memorial Park.

St. Mary’s scored twice in the opening inning before Shawano surged ahead for good with a four-run second. The Hawks scored each run with two outs.

Shawano added a run in the fourth and sixth to cap the scoring.
