Shawano Citizens Police Academy coming up

Shawano Citizens Police Academy is an interactive class where you get to see how officers train and see how they deal with different aspects of their jobs.

Meet the officers and explore through hands-on experiences, including the opportunity to see what it’s like to make a traffic stop, conduct building clearing where a suspect may be, learn defense and arrest tactics such as handcuffing, tour the Shawano Fire Department and perform hands-on activities, tour the Shawano Ambulance and their ambulances as well as many other activities.

Classes are held from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, from March 14 through May 16; there will be no class April 4.

All residents of Shawano and Menominee counties are invited to participate. Those who live elsewhere without a class in their area should also reach out if interested, as accommodations may be available for them.

All participants must be at least 18. The program is free.

For more information or to complete an application, contact either Shawano Police Officer Brandy Hoffman at bhoffman@cityofshawano.com or Shawano County Sheriff’s Lt. Jon Blaskowski at Jon.Blaskowski@shawanocountywi.gov.
