The Shawano Community High School boys soccer team heads into the fall season under the direction of a new coach and ready to compete in the tough Bay Conference.

Andrew Brooks is the team’s new coach and he must replace a couple of impact players from last year’s team, which earned a win in the postseason after a solid regular season.

The coach will lean on the team’s seniors, who Brooks said have shown strong leadership skills and are remaining positive during trying times.

Seniors Carson Cummings (forward, midfielder) and Lucas Te Plate (defense) are back with starting experience on their side.

Junior Ethan Schwitzer (defense) also started last season and is the team’s lone returning all-conference player. He made the honorable mention team.

Also back with varsity experience are seniors Nolan Buck (defense), Caden Tetting, Lance Huebner and Tanner Buck (midfielders) and junior Owen Moesch (midfielder, forward)

“As a senior, I plan on leading the team sort of like just how I did last year,” said Cummings. “I want to set a good example when we run, do drills, and play. Having kids give it their all in practice goes a long ways on the game field.

“Last year I tried to bring the team together a bit, on and off the field, to create bonds and connections, so that when it came to playing we could move the ball more fluently across the field and try to pull out more wins. This year will be a similar process, but hopefully we’ll get a better outcome than last year.”

Five sophomores, Julian Perez and Luke Guenther (midfielders) and Chad Norton, Andrew Herrmann and Jackson Boucher (defense), are among the players that will try and fill the voids left by some of the graduated seniors from last year’s team.

Shawano is set to play 10 games against Bay Conference opponents this fall.
