Shawano, Bonduel cross country teams run to state tournament

Individuals from other schools will also participate

Shawano’s girls cross country team placed first and advanced to the state tournament after running at the Division 2 Sectional 2 sectional meet at Colby on Oct. 21.

The Hawks’ 49 points set the pace, with Medford next with 73.

Scoring for the Hawks were Bailey Hendricks in sixth place, Grace Chelberg in ninth, Lilly Guenther in 10th, Adalyn Barkley in 15th and Maci Beyer in 18th. Also running were Anabelle Schroeder, who placed 34th, and Arica Preston, who ended in 58th.

Oconto Falls placed third as a team, but two individuals will advance to state.

Brooke Hodkiewicz placed third, and Hailey Delzer was seventh overall. Emma Meissner placed 23rd, Hannah Ludemann was 24th and Ava Hodkiewicz was 26th. Also running were Mackenzie Lotto (46th) and Maddy Przybylski (52nd).

Running as individuals were Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Gabrielle Timm (28th), Nora Bushman (42nd), Jayden Zeinert (63rd) and Amelia Bessert (76th).

Menominee Indian’s Urijah Reevis finished 36th.

Shawano’s boys cross country team also qualified for the state tournament after finishing second as a team.

The team earned 64 points, behind Lakeland Union’s 47.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Will Chelberg in second place and Ethan Onesti in third. Also scoring were Josiah Kuehl in 13th, Andon Chelberg in 14th and Connor Chelberg in 38th.

Trevor Schwartz placed 50th, and James Lange was 62nd.

Oconto Falls’ Ben Adams qualified as an individual with his fourth-place finish.

The state tournament will be Oct. 28 in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Panthers finished in third place. Also scoring for them were Griffin Kopke in 20th, Isaiah Holtz in 27th, Brant Laluzerne in 36th and Sage Mendolla in 57th. Landon Timm also ran and placed 61st, while Emerson Rice was 72nd.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood ended in 13th place as a team. Scoring for the Chargers were Jonas Bushman in 48th, Taras Guk in 68th, Hayden Miller in 75th, Milo Salveson in 80th and Marty Nowinsky in 86th. Also competing were Dalton Fletcher, who finished in 89th, and Ian Salveson, who placed 97th.

Competing as individuals, Menominee Indian’s Ryan Corn placed 18th, Julius Kaquatosh was 29th, Francis Delabrau finished in 55th and Dennis Bear was No. 100.

Division 3

Bonduel’s girls captured first place as a team at the Division 3 Sectional 3 event in Lakewood (hosted by Wabeno/Laona) on Oct. 21. The Bears had 52 points.

Leading Bonduel was Mariah Wondra in fifth place. She was joined by Ashlyn Kurey in 10th, Teagan Engel in 11th, Joselyn Bohm in 13th and Cierra Schnell in 25th. Hailey Berg placed 34th, and Taylor Rank was 68th.

Gillett’s Hope Soper led her team with a 16th-place finish, followed by Sophia Limberg in 44th, Lily Hansen in 53rd and Maggie Kaczmarek in 62nd.

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy’s Aspynn Anderson placed 21st, Adrena Rabas was 30th, Haley VanArk was 59th, Miriam Alberts was 74th and Kali Fischer was 92nd.

Suring’s Georgia Gerndt placed 31st, Ginger Gerndt was 50th, Allyson Seibert was 63rd, Samantha Seibert was 82nd and Natalie Seibert placed 87th.

Gresham/Bowler’s Madolyn Haffner placed 36th.

Wolf River Lutheran’s Violet Buchholz placed 37th.

Marion’s Bridget Much finished in 79th, and Bella Conover was 86th.

Bonduel’s boys finished in second place to move on to the state tournament after scoring 81 points. St. Mary Catholic won the event with 59 points, while Gillett was fourth with 119.

Scoring for the Bears were Ben O’Brien in third place, Race Anvelink in 16th, Oliver Chitwood placed 23rd, Gage Anderson was 27th and Griffin Uelmen in 30th. Also competing were Garrett Anderson (62nd) and Ben Reisner (76th).

Gillett’s Bradyn Wendorff finished in fourth place overall and will advance as an individual. Scott Heroux finished in 13th, Nash Stage was 31st, Ben Peterson was 36th and Zander Davis was 56th. Also running was Chase Anderson (58th).

Gresham/Bowler’s Bryson Nelson placed 11th, and Kobe Miller was 93rd.

Marion’s Jesse Trebus placed 64th, Tristan Herro was 73rd and Adam Liethen was 95th.

Mason Spice of Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy was 81st.

Suring’s Garrett School placed 84th, and Liam Matelski placed 97th.

Division 1

At the Division 1 Sectional 3 sectional at Manitowoc Lincoln, Pulaski’s Olivia Stedl competed individually, placed ninth and advanced to the state tournament.

Emerson Fabry placed 19th, and Estella Vieaux was 57th.

Pulaski’s boys ran to an eighth-place finish.

Scoring for the Red Raiders were Dayne Nowak in 17th, Daniel Augustine in 23rd, Arden Gillen in 34th, Peyton Yaw in 46th and Parker Marshall in 48th. Also running were Thomas Murphy in 61st and Dayne Groth in 62nd.
