Shawano Bantam B youth hockey team wins home tournament

The Shawano Bantam B youth hockey team posted a 3-0 record to win a tournament held Jan. 22-24 at the Crawford Center in Shawano.

The Bantam B team claimed the title after scratching out three tight wins.

Shawano opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Chippewa on Jan. 22. The group then edged Waunakee 4-3 on Jan. 23.

In the championship game against West Salem, Shawano earned a 3-2 victory.

The Crawford Center also hosted a Bantam C tournament over the weekend, with the Shawano Bantam C squad among the teams participating.

The Shawano C team opened the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Elmbrook on Jan. 23. The team also faced Iowa City that day, losing 6-0.

The team wrapped up play on Jan. 24 with a 3-0 loss to Waunakee.

The Crawford Center was also the host of a Squirt C tournament on Jan. 8-10.

Shawano’s Squirt C team won the tournament after posting a 3-0 record.

The team got tournament play started with a 6-0 victory over Sheboygan on Jan. 8 before a tight 3-2 win over Waukesha on Jan. 9.

Shawano then topped Manitowoc 1-0 in the title game.

The Crawford Center will host one more youth tournament this winter, a PeeWee B and C tournament from Feb. 12-14.
