Shawano Community High School junior Ethan Schwitzer was named to the Bay Conference honorable mention team after leading the boys basketball team this winter.

Schwitzer averaged 10.5 points in the team’s 11 conference games. He was able to score from all over the floor, including making 12 of his 45 field goals from behind the 3-point line.

“I was very thankful to get a season because at this stage in my basketball career, I only get four years of high school basketball,” said Schwitzer. “This year I tried to make the most out of it. I didn’t get to have the offseason like I would’ve liked with there being no summer league and about half the open gyms, and now being named to the honorable mention team really makes me feel good knowing that the hard work I’ve put in is also being noticed by others.”

Along with his scoring, Schwitzer also dished out 19 assists in conference play.

On the defensive end, he grabbed 80 total rebounds and had 10 steals.

During the school’s Winter Athletic Banquet at The Gathering on March 8, Shawano coach David Ambrosius praised Schwitzer’s leadership qualities that he showed during the season.

“Not enough great things to say about this young man. Like I said before — really, really proud of the maturity that he has shown throughout this year and certainly really, really excited to see what he’s capable of moving forward,” Ambrosius said of Schwitzer.

“As I come into my senior season, I really want to take my game another level by becoming a better shooter and take another step with my finishing moves around the bucket,” said Schwitzer.

Behind the junior, Shawano finished 3-8 in conference play. The Hawks will return all but one player next season.

Xavier finished atop the conference standings with a 10-1 record. Seymour and West De Pere both finished at 10-3.

Seymour’s Mason Dorn was the conference’s Player of the Year, while Xavier’s Cal Mares was the Defensive Player of the Year.
