Four area high school baseball players earned honors recently from the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.

Shawano junior Andrew Popp earned a spot on the WBCA All-State honorable mention team as an infielder. He was also on the first team as an infielder for the North Central District, where he also earned an honorable mention nod.

Popp finished the season with a .484 batting average, four home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

“It means a lot to me. I was very happy to see I made the honorable mention all-state team; that really was pretty cool to me, and it’s gonna motivate me to practice in the offseason so I can achieve even better things in my senior season and hopefully help the team make it to state next year,” said Popp. “That’s a big goal of mine next year.”

Teammate Ashton Henning made the second team as an infielder in the North Central District.

Henning, a sophomore, finished the spring with a .417 batting average, 19 runs scored and 17 RBIs.

“It truly does mean a lot to me,” said Henning of the honor. “All the extra work in the offseason paid off. I couldn’t do this without all the help from my coaches and family. This will fuel me for higher goals and achievements next year.”

Marion’s Jaden Stuhr was an honorable mention in the North Central District.

The Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division Player of the Year had a .423 batting average for the season and 21 RBIs. He tallied nine extra base hits and also walked 18 times.

On the mound, the sophomore pitched 53⅓ innings, posting a 1.44 earned run average. He struck out 112 batters and walked just 20.

“To me, it shows the potential I have,” Stuhr said. “To be named to the honorable mention all-district team gives me the motivation to want more.”

Bonduel’s Cole Anderson made the academic team in the North Central District.

Anderson made the CWC-East first team after hitting for a .284 batting average, while driving in 19 runs and scoring 14 times. He earned five wins on the mound and had a 3.65 ERA over 46 innings pitched.
