Shawano Community High School’s Taylor Johnson tied for ninth place as an individual at the Division 1 Notre Dame Sectional on Tuesday at Thornberry Creek at Oneida Golf Course in Oneida.

Her 18-hole round of 92 just missed out on qualifying the senior for state.

"I played some of the best golf I’ve ever played in my life aside from my putting," said Johnson. "I hit about 15 out of 18 greens in regulation and really was feeling it today. I came up a little short of the goal I had for myself today, but I am happy with the way I finished my season."

Notre Dame and Hortonville had their teams qualify for state after placing first and second at the sectional.

The top three individuals from any of the other schools at the sectional qualified for state. The third qualifier posted a round of 89.

After posting a score of 47 on the front nine, Johnson was even better on the back nine, tallying a 45.

"Finishing as one of the top golfers in the state is a huge accomplishment for me and it is something I was striving for the whole season," said Johnson. "It’s a great way to leave Shawano golf. Although I was four strokes short of a state appearance, I appreciate the opportunity to have made it as far as I did and I will cherish the memories from this sport forever."
