WIAA Subsectionals

All three Shawano doubles teams advanced to sectional play following the opening round of subsection action at Western Racquet and Fitness Club in Green Bay.

The No. 1 doubles and singles players were working to win one match to move on to sectionals, and the rest of the players were trying to win two.

All three doubles teams were the No. 1 seed.

The No. 1 doubles team of George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon dropped the first game to Green Bay West and then focused to finish the match with 12 straight wins.

At No. 2 doubles, Tristan Tetting and Isaac Welander started with a first-round bye and battled back to win a straight set match 6-2, 6-4 against a tough Pulaski team.

At No. 3 doubles, Dominic Badalamenti and Mason Sparks got to rest the first round and then took down a Green Bay Southwest team they had beaten just four days earlier.

All three of the doubles teams will play Wednesday for the sectional championship. The N0. 1 and 2 duos will play for a spot in the WIAA state tournament next week.

The singles players had competitive matches but were unable to advance.

Ben Langlois had a three-set thriller that came down to a 10-8 tiebreaker. Ryan Symons of Pulaski won 5-7, 7-5, 10-8.

Andrew VanDenHeuvel faced Ashwaubenon’s Quinn Nooyan, who beat him earlier in the season. Nooyan won 6-3, 6-2.

Bay Port’s Dhruv Bidari defeated Cristian Hernandez 6-4, 6-2.

Pulaski’s Donovan Holderness beat Ryan Buerman 6-0, 6-4.
