Sarah Tracy named new Shawano boys swim coach

She also coaches Seymour girls team in fall

Sarah Tracy has been hired as the new varsity boys swim head coach at Shawano Community High School.

“I was shocked to be thought of and honored with the opportunity (to coach at Shawano). Coaching swim is truly a passion and purpose of mine.” said Tracy of her hire. “Swimming gave me so much dedication and confidence, and I want to show our youth how to transfer these qualities to all aspects of their lives.”

Tracy has been involved with the sport of swim throughout her life. She started competitive swimming at age 6 and swam all the way through four years of college swimming at UW-LaCrosse.

She has coached since the age of 12, when she began helping her local age group program by coaching the younger swimmers. During her fifth year of college, she served as a volunteer student assistant coach at UWL.

In 2003, she joined the teaching staff at Seymour High School and became the girls swim assistant coach. The following year, she took over as the head coach of the Seymour girls program and continues in that role today.

In her tenure at Seymour, her teams have won the Bay Conference Championship three times, and she has taken 11 trips to the girls state meet. She also serves as the head track and field coach at Seymour in the spring.

“We couldn’t have hoped to find a swim coach with a stronger resume or more coaching experience,” said Joel Wondra, Shawano High School activities director. “Sarah is a seasoned veteran who is accomplished at coaching high school athletes in the sport of swim. I’m excited for her to bring high standards and a hard work ethic to our boys swim program.”

Tracy will get started in her role almost immediately, with practice starting Nov. 14.

“My hope is to give the boys and the program a positive shared experience” said Tracy. “Earning trust takes time, but I also want to give these boys a chance to excel. I am hoping we can improve their swimming as well as take those crucial steps to being strong, independent and confident young men, prepared for whatever their future might bring.”
