Russell J. Kostreva

Russell James Kostreva, 86, of Pound, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021. He was born April 7, 1935, to the late Emery and Esther (Tachick) Kostreva. He married the former Lois Lucille Tachick on June 23, 1956, at the Pound Assembly of God Church.

Russell loved farming and was proud to pass on the family farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, baseball, shooting pool, gardening, spending time with his family especially supporting his children and grandchildren in all sports. Russell was well respected among his friends and neighborhood and ultimately by his children and family for his example and commitment to living out his relationship with the Lord.

He was a devoted father and husband having 61 years of marriage. Surviving are four children, Mark (Melody), Randy (Sherry L.), Paul (Sherry A.) and Sara (Gary) Mertz; one brother, Rodney Kostreva; three sisters, Carolyn Tachick, Audrey (Bob) Plaszkiewicz and Sharon Wachal.

Russell was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, Mckenzie Kostreva, Matthew (Krysta) Kostreva, Melissa (Christopher) Moser, Megan (Tony) Kurtz, Miranda (David) Carlson, Nathan (Tina) Kostreva, Kyle (Laura) Kostreva, Emery Kostreva and Maya Mertz; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois, in 2017; and a daughter, Lynn Kostreva in 2002.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 235 E. Main St., Coleman, on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating. Russell will be placed to rest at First Baptist Cemetery, Pound.
