Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will reportedly play for the Green Bay Packers this season after all.

Just before noon on July 26, Ian Rapoport, a national insider for NFL Network and NFL.com, tweeted that “#Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he does plan to play for Green Bay this season, sources say. That is the expectation. Many factors at play, but with General Manager Brian Gutekunst saying he is “hopeful” for a positive outcome, there is a glimmer of optimism.

At 3 p.m., he then reported that Rodgers and the Packers were in the “final stages of a reworked deal to bring him back for the 2021 season, source said. It should be official soon.”

In a follow-up tweet, Rapoport indicated that the reworked deal allows Rodgers to have “a say in his future in 2022 and 2023.”

ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter was also tweeting about the Rodgers reworked deal.

“The new agreement, once finalized, would help set up Aaron Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay after this season, per sources,” tweeted Schefter.

“The 2023 year in Aaron Rodgers’ contract — the last one in his current deal — would be voided, with no tags allowed in the future, per sources.”

In additional tweets, Schefter wrote “The Packers would agree to review Aaron Rodgers’ situation at the end of this season, per sources.”

The reworked deal is also reportedly going to free up cap room for the Packers this season, according to Schefter.

He then tweeted about Packers receiver Davante Adams, writing he “now is willing to listen to any contract discussions the team would like to have, per sources. Adams open to a deal.”

Green Bay’s training camp opens this week, with veteran players reporting to Green Bay on July 27 and then partaking in the first practice at 10:10 a.m. on July 28.
