Robert Voss

Robert Voss, 101, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021, in Shawano. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Tinley Park, Illinois, to the late Walter and Frieda (Leiss) Voss. Bob was united in marriage to Joan Tembey on June 1, 1946, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Following Bob’s graduation from Peotone High School as the class valedictorian, he attended Blackburn College for two years before being called to military service during World War II. His entire service was spent at Camp Lee, Virginia, where he trained soldiers who were to serve overseas.

Following the war, Bob attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in dairy technology. He immediately went to work for Kraft Foods in Glenview and Chicago, Illinois, where he had a successful career that culminated in overseeing international cheese productions. He retired from Kraft in 1983. After retirement, he moved to Shawano and lived on the lake for 16 years until he moved into town. After his 100th birthday, he moved to the Cottages Assisted Living in Shawano.

Bob loved fishing and kept track of every fish he caught in Shawano Lake. He fed many from his huge garden and played softball into his mid-90s. He was a longtime active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Bob was a remarkable man and an inspiration to many. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and he will be deeply missed.

Bob is survived by three sons, Robert (Marcy) Voss, Brian Voss and Barry (Kim) Voss; eight grandchildren, Kristi (Lee) Thorson, Kari (Greg) Schneider, Rob (Tricia) Voss, Catherine Voss, Dan Brewer, Jackie (Matt) Delang, Sarah Voss and Micah (Jennifer) Voss; 13 great-grandchildren, Michael, Kyla, Tyler, Olivia, Ford, Cole, River, Robert, Lily, Raven, Sawyer, Jaylen and LaMondre; and one nephew, Eric Simmons, and his children Sarah, Tracy and E.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joan; his parents; and two sisters, Marjorie and Edna.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Shawano VFW Post 2723. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Habitat for Humanity in Shawano.
