A ribbon cutting was held Sept. 2 at the West Side Beach Trailhead to reintroduce the public to the secluded, wooded walking trail at the end of Flatley Avenue not far from the Oconto River in Oconto Falls.

The Oconto Falls Area Chamber and the City of Oconto Falls joined forces to improve the West Side Trail, which is enjoyed by many and is part of the half-marathon route for the Run for the Trails event.

The sixth annual Run for the Trails is scheduled for Sept. 26, based at ST Paper Stadium along North Farm Road. In addition to the half-marathon, the competition includes a 10k run and 5k run or walk.

All of the events include the new high school trail, thanks to donors and proceeds from previous Run for the Trails races.

Packet pickup is scheduled for 3:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 and 6:30-7:45 a.m. Sept. 26 at the stadium concession stand window. The runs begin at 8 a.m.
