Resch Lanes was named the 2018 Member of the Year at the Wittenberg Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet Saturday at Lisa’s at Lakeside in Hatley.

Sally Jo Stevens, chamber president, listed some of the accomplishments of owners Jason and Jennifer Resch since they took over the business at 407 Howard St., Wittenberg, 10 years ago:

- Food sales have doubled.
- Friday fish frys draw not only local residents, but also people from Wausau and beyond.
- They have awarded $10,000 in scholarships and support local charities such as the Wittenberg Food Pantry, and proceeds from a monthly meat raffle go to the Wittenberg Lions Club.
- The Relectronic scoring system in the alley has been upgraded and the building’s façade enhanced.

Jason Resch shared that when he hung out at the bowling alley when he was in high school, his dream was to one day own it.

“I was super lucky to marry someone to help me do it,” he said. “Thank you, Jenny.”

Resch said his wife does most of the behind-the-scenes work and that the business wouldn’t exist without her. He said their business philosophy remains pretty simple: “We care about the people in this town. We want this area to succeed.”

He’s happy that WBHS now does an official career planning day with the students. It was during a more informal session when he was in high school that he first heard the adage, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Resch added: “I haven’t worked a day in 10 years.”

The banquet also included a short presentation by Nancy Smith, executive director of Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, about the “Wild and Scenic” branding efforts for the area.
