Packers cut roster down to 53 players

The Green Bay Packers have released the following players: defensive linemen Abdullah Anderson, Carlo Kemp and Willington Previlon, wide receivers Reggie Begelton, Damon Hazelton, Equanimeous St. Brown and Juwann Winfree, quarterback Kurt Benkert, guard Ben Braden, guards/tackles Jacob Capra, Coy Cronk and Cole Van Lanen, cornerbacks Stephen Denmark, Kabion Ento and Rojesterman Farris, safeties Innis Gaines and Christian Uphoff, linebackers Tipa Galeai, De’Jon Harris, Delontae Scott and Ray Wilborn, tight end Bronson Kaufusi, kicker J.J. Molson, punter J.K. Scott and running backs Patrick Taylor and Dexter Williams.

The team has placed tackle David Bakhtiari on reserve/physically unable to perform and tight end Jace Sternberger on reserve/suspended.

The transactions were announced Aug. 31 by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.­­­

Packers build practice squad

The Packers signed the following players to the practice squad: DL Abdullah Anderson, QB Kurt Benkert, WR Chris Blair, G Ben Braden, G/T Jacob Capra, CB Kabion Ento, S Innis Gaines, LB Tipa Galeai, TE Bronson Kaufusi, K J.J. Molson, DL Willington Previlon, WR Equanimeous St. Brown, RB Patrick Taylor, T/G Cole Van Lanen, LB Ray Wilborn, WR Juwann Winfree.

The transactions were announced Sept. 1 by Gutekunst.

All 16 of the signees to the practice squad spent time with the Packers during the 2021 training camp.

Packers make change to practice squad

The Packers have signed long snapper Steven Wirtel to the practice squad and released defensive lineman Willington Previlon.

Gutekunst announced the transactions Sept. 2.

Wirtel is a 6-foot-4, 228-pound, first-year player out of Iowa State University. He originally signed with the Detroit Lions in May 2020 as an undrafted free agent and spent the entire season on their practice squad. Wirtel signed with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, but was released on Aug. 26.

In four seasons at Iowa State, he did not miss a single game in his career (51 total) while handling all snapping duties.

Wirtel will wear No. 46 for the Packers.

Packers announce trade with Rams

The Packers have traded a 2023 sixth-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Rams for P Corey Bojorquez and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.

Gutekunst announced the transaction Sept. 4.

Bojorquez is a 6-foot, 217-pound, fourth-year player out of the University of New Mexico. He originally signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018. After being released following training camp, Bojorquez was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills.

Over three seasons (2018-20), he played in 40 regular-season games for the Bills and averaged 45.0 yards (39.7 net avg.) on 165 punts with a long of 72 yards and 74 punts landing inside the 20-yard line. In 2020, Bojorquez led the NFL with a gross punting average of 50.8 yards, which also set the Bills’ single-season franchise record. He set a team single-season mark for Buffalo in 2019 with 34 punts placed inside the 20-yard line (tied for No. 3 in the NFL).

Bojorquez also appeared in four postseason contests, punting 15 times for an average of 44.1 yards (39.8 net avg.) with a long of 58 yards and six punts landing inside the 20-yard line.

In 2021, he signed with the Rams and punted seven times in the preseason, averaging 51.9 yards (51.9 net avg.) with a long of 70 yards and four punts landing inside the 20-yard line.
