Packers transactions (Aug. 1-7)

The Green Bay Packers have signed tight end Daniel Crawford and placed wide receiver Bailey Gaither on the reserve/retired list.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Aug. 3.

Crawford, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound rookie out of Northern Illinois, played in 42 games for the Huskies (2016-17, 2019-20) and posted 65 receptions for 691 yards (10.6 avg.) and three TDs.

He played in all 12 games with nine starts as a junior in 2019, ranking No. 2 on the team with a career-high 37 catches and No. 3 with a career-best 443 receiving yards. Crawford will wear No. 80 for the Packers.

Gaither, a rookie out of San Jose State, signed with the Packers in May 2021 as an undrafted free agent.

Packers sign DL Avery

The Packers have signed defensive lineman Josh Avery.

Gutekunst announced the transaction Aug. 4.

Avery, a 6-3, 318-pound, first-year player out of Southeast Missouri State, spent part of last offseason with Seattle after signing with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2020.

In 2021, he played for the Alphas of The Spring League. Avery transferred from Independence Community College to Southeast Missouri State and in two seasons with the Redhawks, he recorded 41 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

He will wear No. 63 for the Packers.

Green Bay activates LB Wilborn from reserve/COVID-19 list

The Packers have activated linebacker Ray Wilborn from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The transaction was announced Aug. 4 by Gutekunst.

Per agreed-upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list is for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been in close contact with an infected person or persons.

Packers release LS Fortunato

The Packers have released long snapper Joe Fortunato.

Gutekunst announced the transaction Aug. 5.

Fortunato, a first-year player out of Delaware, signed with the Packers in March 2021.

Packers claim LB Rivers

The Packers have claimed linebacker Chauncey Rivers off of waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

Gutekunst announced the transaction Aug. 6.

Rivers (6-2, 259) was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State in 2020. He spent all of his rookie season on the Ravens’ practice squad, appearing in one game as a COVID-replacement elevation.

In college, Rivers appeared in 26 career games (13 starts) at defensive end for MSU, recording 67 tackles (32 solo), 15 tackles for a loss, 7½ sacks, three passes defensed and a forced fumble. As a senior, he earned All-Southeastern Conference second-team honors from The Associated Press after leading all Mississippi State defensive linemen with 43 tackles (24 solo), eight tackles for a loss and five sacks.

Rivers will wear No. 47 for the Packers.
