Over 40K turkeys harvested during spring season
A total of 42,583 turkeys were harvested this spring in Wisconsin, according to a May 26 preliminary harvest report released by the Department of Natural Resources.
In 2019, 38,576 birds were harvested. This year’s total is the highest mark since 2017, when 43,305 turkeys were harvested.
In zone 3, which includes most of Shawano County and small portions of Menominee County, accounted for 10,864 turkeys this spring. Only zone 1 (11,340) finished with a higher harvest total among the seven zones. Zone 3 harvested 9,500 turkeys during the 2019 spring season.
Zone 2, which features an eastern portion of Shawano County and the southern portion of Oconto County in it, totaled 10,162 birds, up from 9,333 in 2019.
Zone 5, which includes the rest of Menominee County and the top portion of Oconto County, finished with 2,026 harvests. The zone had 1,901 harvests in 2019.
