The man wanted in connection with an Oconto shooting was captured shortly after sunrise Sept. 11 hiding in a wooded area near White Lake Road in the Town of Bagley.

Cody John Krueger, 24, has been wanted for attempted homicide since the incident Sept. 3 in the 2000 block of Superior Avenue in the City of Oconto. Krueger is accused of shooting Nicholas Staidl in an apparently drug-related confrontation near Staidl’s mailbox.

Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said the Emergency Dispatch Center got a call at about 3:16 p.m. Sept. 10 about a reckless driver in the Town of Lena.  Deputies located the vehicle and attempted contact, but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle and took off on foot in the Town of Bagely on Deer Lake Road. At that point the driver was identified as Krueger, and a  passenger, Justin Jo Pierquet, 23, was taken into custody, Skarban said.

Law Enforcement worked throughout the night attempting to locate Krueger. Among other actions a search warrant was executed at a residence on Janik Road in the Town of Spruce after a tip the suspect may be there.

As a result of the search warrant, Kyra L. Saldana, 19, was arrested on a probation and parole warrant, and Steven M. Bickel, 37, was arrested on charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Krueger was located around 7:15 a.m. Sept. 11 hiding in the woods and was taken into custody.

Skarban said the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oconto Police Department, Suring Police Department, Gillett Police Department, Oconto Falls Police Department, Lena Police Department, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and Oconto County Emergency Management.
