Oconto Falls High School Principal Dan Moore plans to retire after the end of this school year. The school board accepted his retirement request during its Jan. 8 meeting.

Moore has spent a total of 20 years with the school district in two stints, Superintendent Dean Hess said. His tenure included 13 years as principal of Oconto Falls Elementary School, a position he left for an assistant high school principal post in Oshkosh before returning to serve at OFHS.

“I’m happy for Mr. Moore and, by the same token, sad to see him go,” Hess said. “He was here when I started with the district in 2015. I appreciate the work that he has done and wish him the best in his retirement.”

Hess said Moore is asking that his final date be in July to coincide with when he turns 55, when he is eligible to be covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System, and to provide transition time to work with his successor.

“We saw that as a win-win,” Hess said.

Board President Clint Gardebrecht said there was a similar overlap when former superintendent David Polashek retired and Hess was hired in 2015.

The principal job will be posted within a week, Hess said, and the hiring process should be finished in plenty of time to allow the new principal to transition with Moore.

“We appreciate Mr. Moore giving this to us early enough for us to do that,” Hess said.
