Oconto Falls girls golf team qualifies for sectional

The Oconto Falls High School girls golf team qualified for sectionals after placing in the top four at the Division 2 Waupaca Regional on Thursday at Foxfire Golf Club.

The Panthers posted a team score of 432 to take third. Freedom (390) won the meet and Marinette (424) was second, while Fox Valley Lutheran (458) also qualified as a team after finishing fourth.

Leading the way for Oconto Falls was senior Kaylee Sadowski, who posted an 18-hole round of 97. That score tied her for the fifth-best on the course as an individual.

"It is an amazing feeling," said Sadowski of qualifying for sectionals as a team. "Over this summer we practiced an extreme amount and it paid off. We are extremely excited to continue on!"

Senior Morgan Blazek and sophomore Kate Pytleski each fired rounds of 110 for the Panthers, tying for 13th as individuals. Senior Kearra Champeau came in 20th after posting a 115, while senior Carli Fischer carded a 135.

"It was the best feeling ever knowing that we made it to sectionals as a team and we could all go on together, not just one individual," said Blazek.

"As a team it is a great accomplishment to move on to sectionals. I can speak for all of us when I say that we put our hearts into it and worked so hard to get to this point," said Champeau.

After posting a score of 49 on the front nine, Sadowski fired a 48 on the back nine to finish off her strong day. Sadowski also made it to sectionals as a junior, doing so as an individual.

Just like Sadowski, most of the Panthers fared better on the back nine.

Pytleski shot a 51 on the back nine after a 59 on the front nine. Blazek shot a 53 on the back nine after a 57 on the front nine.

Fischer was a shot better on the back nine (67) than the front nine (68). Champeau tied for the team's second-best showing on the front nine with a 57 before carding a 58 on the back nine.

Oconto Falls is scheduled to compete in The Prairie School Sectional on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Ives Groves Golf Links in Racine.
