Oconto Falls’ Bozile takes second place at state wrestling tournament
For the Bonduel boys, wrestling at 113 pounds in Division 3, it was Jaxon Bogacz, and at 150, it was Colin Fischer.
Bogacz lost his first match of the state wrestling tournament 10-2 to Kaleb Lodahl of Cadott. He then lost 11-2 to Lukas Orloff of Pecatonica/Argyle.
Fischer was defeated 5-2 by Logan Peterson of Cumberland.
Lena was represented by Sam Peterson at 113 pounds in D3. He lost 12-0 to Colin Cournoyer of Stratford.
Oconto Falls wrestlers were in D2. Garrett Ganter wrestled at 106, Cole Bozile wrestled at 138, and Nick Trepanier was at 190.
Ganter opened his tournament play with an 11-0 win over Nick Lara of Jefferson, then a 16-1 loss to Shane Rochon of Dodgeville. In the consolation bracket, he lost 2-1 to Jake Jandrin of Luxemburg-Casco.
Bozile ended up in second place. He started with a 4-2 decision over Stanley-Boyd’s Breckin Burzynski, followed by a 12-2 decision over Marcus McIntyre of Brodhead/Juda. For the title, he lost 3-2 to Caleb Delebreau of Luxemburg-Casco.
Lake Mills’ Owen Burling defeated Trepanier 7-1.
For Wittenberg-Birnamwood, wrestling in Division 2, Andres Sanchez wrestled at 144, Bryson Schmid was at 165, and Owen Schultz wrestled at 285.
Sanchez started with a 12-3 win over Trig White of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm, followed by a 16-4 loss to Braedon Dorshorst of Lodi. In the consolation bracket, Sanchez lost 4-3 to Drew Hird of Prairie du Chien.
Schmid beat Whitewater’s Sebastian Cuellar 5-0 but then lost 15-0 to Owen Wasley of St. Croix Central. In his first consolation match, he lost 10-3 to Nic Deheck of Kewaskum.’
Schultz battled to a 2-2 score against Willy Graham of Stanley-Boyd, but Graham moved on in the bracket.
Chase Woosencraft wrestled at 190 for D1 Pulaski. He opened with a 9-1 win over Nate Behrndt of Hamilton, and he followed that up with a 6-2 decision over Brayden Albee of Regis/Altoona.
Unfortunately, his next match ended with a 25-10 loss to Connor Mirasola of West Bend West.
In the consolation matches, Woosencraft beat Reed Falk of Middleton 9-2. He finished in fourth place with a 5-2 loss to Watertown’s Owen Sjoberg.
Drake Herm wrestled at 138 for D1 Shawano. He was shut out 6-0 by Edwyn Schroeder of Oshkosh West.
