Oconto County Public Health offering discounted radon tests

Oconto County Public Health is lowering the price of radon tests to encourage county residents to test for radon gas in their homes.

The easy-to-use tests will be for sale at the discounted price of $5 per test. This sale will run through the entire month of January, which is National Radon Action Month. To make it even easier to get a radon test, several Oconto County municipalities have partnered with Public Health and will sell the test kits at their locations though January.

Radon is a radioactive gas from the ground that can enter a home through tiny cracks in the foundation. Radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths nationwide each year and about 962 of these deaths are in Wisconsin. This cause of lung cancer is largely preventable. The first step is to test.
