Proceedings of Jan. 13

Rafael Elroy Garay, 37, Pound, was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by two years of extended supervision, for two counts of felony bail jumping in connection with an incident that occurred Jan. 3. Judge Michael T. Judge ruled that among other conditions of extended supervision, Garay must maintain absolute sobriety and complete all assessments, counseling and treatment deemed necessary by his corrections agent.

Madelyn Rae Shimon, 25, Green Bay, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor bail jumping, in connection with an incident that occurred July 3, and was placed on one year of probation. A felony bail jumping charge was dismissed in a plea agreement.

A Jan. 18-19 jury trial was rescheduled for April 4-5 for Joey E. Kingsley, 42, Oconto, who is charged with escape from criminal arrest, two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred May 12, 2021.

Kennedy M. Nagel, 26, Abrams, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to fleeing an officer in a vehicle and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property, resisting or obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Nov. 6. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for March 16.

Proceedings of Jan. 12

State charges were dismissed against Rocky R. Sonkowsky, 33, Oconto, in light of his being charged in federal court with engaging in sexually explicit conduct with a minor and recording it. State prosecutors had charged Sonkowsky with first-degree child sexual assault and child sexual exploitation, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Oct. 27, 2021.

A bench warrant was authorized for Devin David Lakonen-Smet, 21, Oconto Falls, after he failed to appear for a pre-trial conference on charges of possession of THC with intent to distribute, maintaining a drug trafficking place and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Jan. 7, 2022.

A July 27-28 jury trial was scheduled for Glenroy T. Vanlannen, 21, Rib Lake, on a charge alleging the repeated sexual assault of the same child. A final pre-trial conference was scheduled for July 10.

A jury trial was rescheduled for July 27-28 for Gerald W. Tucker III, 54, Lakewood, on charges of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, and misdemeanor counts of battery, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of THC, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Aug. 8, 2020. A final pre-trial conference was scheduled for July 10.

An Aug. 9-10 jury trial was scheduled for Richard W. Sotka, 48, Rosendale, on charges of stalking and misdemeanor counts of bail jumping and disorderly conduct, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 1, 2021, and an alleged Oct. 31, 2021, restraining order violation. A final pre-trial conference was set for July 24.

Jacob Brian School, 36, Oconto Falls, pleaded not guilty to intimidating the victim of a domestic abuse crime, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Nov. 9. A plea hearing was scheduled for Feb. 20.

Sara Julia Petersen, 26, Redgranite, pleaded not guilty to battery or threat to a law officer and misdemeanor bail jumping, disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Aug. 27. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for Feb. 16.

Proceedings of Jan. 10

Bond was set at $20,000 cash for Jason C. Smith, 37, White Lake, after he was charged with possession of narcotic drugs, bail jumping, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property and attempted theft, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Jan. 4. In a separate case, Judge Jay N. Conley set bail at $5,000 cash for Smith on a felony charge of burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred June 26, 2021. His initial appearance was adjourned until Feb. 16.

Curt T. Schmitt, 34, Suring, was placed on two years’ probation after a one-year county jail term was imposed and stayed for possession with intent to deliver THC, in connection with an incident that occurred Oct. 27, 2021. Conditions of probation include that he maintain absolute sobriety and serve 60 days jail with Huber release privileges for childcare and/or employment, and that he undergo an alcohol and other drug abuse assessment and follow through on any recommendations.

Christopher L. Stein, 38, Peshtigo, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to possession of methamphetamine, along with a misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle while his license was revoked, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Dec. 4. Attorneys also argued a defense motion to dismiss the case. Judge Michael T. Judge said he would rule on the motion at a status conference scheduled for Jan. 18.
