The Waukesha man charged in a fatal UTV accident in the Town of Doty pleaded not guilty Oct. 6 in Oconto County Circuit Court.

Scot A. Haas, 53, Waukesha, is being charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, homicide by using a vehicle with a prohibited blood-alcohol content and homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle, in connection with the accident that claimed the life of David Weinmann, 56, of West Chicago, Illinois, on May 29.

The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of County Road T and Boulder Lake Lane. Weinmann appeared to have been ejected from the cargo portion of the UTV. He was taken to the Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo, where he later died of his injuries.

Oconto County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Ben Schindel was the only witness at a preliminary hearing before Judge Michael T. Judge, who ruled there is probable cause a felony was committed and bound Haas over for trial. Arraignment immediately followed, and Haas entered not guilty pleas.

Judge scheduled a pre-trial conference for Dec. 9. Haas remains free after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
