Ms. Senior Homemaker reset for August

The annual Ms. Senior Homemaker Pageant will go on this year, just a little later than originally planned due to COVID-19 concerns.

This event has been resscheduled for Aug. 18, 12-4 p.m.

A lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. and the program will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Shawano Lake County Park pavilion.

Admission is free. A cash bar will be available.

Anyone attending is eligible to win door prizes.

Seven seniors over the age of 55 will compete for the crown of Ms. Senior Homemaker. Contestants have been selected but a waiting list is being started, according to Amy Thusius, event founder and organizer.

They will be judged by a panel of community professionals in the areas of a homemade dessert; a meaningful outfit with a story behind its meaning; an optional talent. Pageant hopefulls will also participate at a multitasking table doing dishes, folding laundry, caring for a crying doll, and answering a telemarketing call, all within 3 minutes.

“It’s just like it use to be years back for these seniors,” Thusius said.

Finally, each contestant will answer the Ms. Homemaker question.

The 2019 winner was Marlene Molly Miller from Bowler.

This year this event will feature music by Elvis John and Chaplain Ron, known for his 5,000 songs and audience participation.
