Authorities on June 17 released more information about a fatal officer-involved shooting near Oconto on June 8.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation said Oconto County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jordan Longsine responded to a report of a reckless driver on U.S. Highway 41 and saw the vehicle pull over near Frog Pond Road. The driver got out of the vehicle with severe injuries, and Longsine began to tend to the person’s injuries.

At that point a female passenger, Dakota Coleman, 27, left the vehicle wielding a knife and approached Longsine and the wounded driver, refusing to comply with commands, the DCI said. The officer, a 17-year veteran, shot Coleman, who died at the scene despite first-aid efforts.

The driver was taken to the hospital with what were described as serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Longsine remains on administrative leave pending the results of the DCI investigation.
