A young Menominee Indian High School softball team has a simple expectation for the upcoming season — to improve.

When Menominee Indian was on the field last in 2019, the team won a pair of games. The Eagles hadn’t won a game the two seasons prior to that.

“We hope to continue to build a strong softball culture in this community,” said coach Miranda Roland.

“A challenge for this season is the amount of youth on the team. Almost half the team will consist of freshmen, which is a blessing and a curse. We have the ability to mold and develop these young players into exactly what we need as a program, but it is young ladies playing against strong experienced players.”

Senior Selena O’Kimosh will lead the team after landing on the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division honorable mention team as a sophomore. She will serve as the team’s top pitcher, and play in the infield when not in the circle.

Helping round out the infield will be senior Arvilla James, junior Alexis Wilber and sophomore Aniya Peters.

The rest of the lineup will primarily be first-time players at the high school level.

“As a senior this year, my plan is to push my team, and be the best leader I can be for them,” said O’Kimosh, “and hold them up the best that I am able to this year, especially with the young team that we have this year.”
