Mary L. Katch

Mary Leora Katch, 83, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at her home. Mary was born May 22, 1936, in Gresham, to the late Oscar and Leora (Putnam) Schultz.

On Oct. 3, 1964, Mary was united in marriage to Matthias “Butch” Katch in Crown Point, Indiana. In her years of living in Indiana, she worked for Taylor Chain-Mill and Queen Anne Candy. After Mary and Butch made their home in Shawano, they owned and operated Katch One Bar in Gresham for over 10 years, and most recently she worked at the River Mart in Keshena.

She was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Shawano and enjoyed reading the Bible daily. Mary loved taking care of her flowers and watching the birds, especially the cardinals. She enjoyed baking and putting on big family meals during the holidays, as well as hosting parties of all kinds. Mary enjoyed taking car rides to see the countryside. She also enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Golden State Warriors and the Green Bay Packers.

Mary is survived by her husband, Mathias “Butch” Katch; her daughters, Luann (Wayne) Tuma and Cheryl Heling; her grandchildren, Katie (Johan) Madrigal, Kristine Tuma, Kraig (Jodi) Tuma, Jenna (fiancé Chris Tiffany) Tuma and David Heling; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Makayla and Nathan; and one brother, Oscar (Brenda) Schultz. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Leora; her brothers, Alvin, Arnold, Merton, Larry and Fritzie Schultz; and her sisters, Florence “Flo” Welk and Hilda Graverson.

A funeral service for Mary was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, with the Rev. Steve Conradt officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
