Mary Ann Steinke

Mary Ann Steinke, 88, of Leopolis, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. Mary was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Gresham, to the late Raymond and Laura (Ready) Schmidt.

On April 3, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Allen “Swampy” Steinke in Leopolis. Allen preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1988. She lived in the Gresham and Leopolis area all of her life. Mary worked at Eagle Knit, Patio Restaurant, Westerfield Oil and Shawano County Jail as a cook. She loved camping, watching baseball games in Leopolis and going to the cabin in Vilas County.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Sue (Dennis) Radtke, of Suamico, and Kathy (LeRoy) Hillmer, of Montello; her sons, Tom (Lynn) Steinke, of Shawano, and Mike (Debra) Steinke, of Shawano; son-in-law, Gordon Schwersenska; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Donna Jaeger, of Minneapolis, Warren “Corney” Schmidt, of Pella, James Schmidt, of Leopolis, and Robert Schmidt, of Leopolis; and sister-in-law, Ruby Schmidt, of Shawano. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sandra and Sally Schwersenska; her parents; one brother, John “Jack” Schmidt: one brother-in-law, Jim Jaeger; and one sister-in-law, Jeanne Schmidt.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, from 10 a.m. until noon. Spring burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Leopolis.
