Marvin (Marv) Christensen Oct. 10, 1935 — Oct. 12, 2021

Marv Christensen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, just after celebrating his 86th birthday with his family.

Marv, the fourth child of Verna Ramage and Conrad Christensen, grew up in Gillett. Growing up on a farm, Marv tended to pigs, sheep and cows and joined 4-H. Marv graduated from Gillett High School in 1953 and shortly after joined the Army, serving from 1955 to 1957.

Marv met Marlene McHugh on a blind date, and on Nov. 28, 1957, they wed. Marv and Marlene welcomed four energetic boys — Michael, Mark, Merlin and Marty — and settled down in Suamico and created their perfect home. When not working at the local paper mill where he spent 42 years as a millwright, Marv enjoyed playing and coaching softball, hunting, fishing, woodworking and trap shooting. In their free time, Marv and Marlene enjoyed spending time at their trailer up north, camping with their P&M club friends, moped rides and enjoying polka and bluegrass music.

After retirement, Marv enjoyed various projects in his meticulously organized shop. He spent many afternoons outdoors, tending to the garden and lawn or taking a nap in the swing. His favorite was riding his lawnmower. When he wasn’t outdoors, he spent time entertaining his friends, playing cards or marbles and enjoying a beer or two. Marv and Marlene also enjoyed going out to dinner and, his favorite, nightly ice cream.

Marv is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene; children, Michael and Pat Christensen, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Mark and Paula Christensen, of Suamico, Merlin Christensen, of Green Bay, and Marty and Nancy Christensen, of Denmark; and sibling, Norman (Ruby) Christensen. Grandchildren include, James (Misty) Perras, Laura Perras, Marissa (Nathan) Heim, and Taylor and Austin Christensen. Marv is further survived by nine great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents, Verna and Conrad; and siblings, Vernon, Elton, Tom, Dorothy Cornish and Norma Ondik.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, from 3-6 p.m. at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, 1145 Cardinal Lane, Green Bay. A service follows at 6 p.m. with Pastor Steve Fewell officiating, followed by military honors.

Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com

Marv’s family would like to thank the compassionate staff of St. Vincent’s ninth floor and Unity Hospice (Jack and Engrid Meng Residence) for their exceptional care.
