The Marquette men’s basketball team backed up its Big East Conference regular season title with a conference tournament title and then received a No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament.

Wisconsin lost its opening matchup in the Big Ten Tournament and found out March 12 that it missed the NCAA Tournament. The Badgers are instead slated to play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

After topping St. John’s 72-70 on March 9 and UConn 70-68 on March 10, Marquette eased past Xavier 65-51 in the Big East Tournament title game on March 11.

Marquette, which improved to 28-6 on the season, is the No. 2 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles will take on No. 15 Vermont at 1:45 p.m in a first round game on March 17 in Columbus, Ohio.

Wisconsin trailed by as many as 27 points against Ohio State before getting within five points late, but ultimately lost 65-57 on March 8.

The Badgers are a No. 2 seed in the NIT bracket and will host Bradley at 8:30 p.m. on March 14. Wisconsin, now owning a 17-14 overall record, is playing in the NIT for just the third time ever and first time since 1996.
