The Marion High School baseball team comes into the spring season under the direction of a new head coach and ready to compete for a Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division title.

Joe Stuhr is the team’s new coach and he has a strong core of upperclassmen to build around this spring.

“I believe that we have a team that can compete for the top 1-3 positions in the conference,” said Stuhr. “I feel we are in a good spot with pitching depth, as long as the young guys keep developing and the juniors and seniors can get the bugs worked out from not having a high school or Legion season a year ago.”

Leading the way will be senior Carter Goke (pitcher, infield) and junior Alex Zimmerman (catcher, pitcher, infield), who each landed on the CWC-North second team in 2019.

Senior Koy Brei (first base, pitcher, outfield) and junior Ethan Scheef (outfield, catcher) also have ample varsity experience.

“I definitely think we can complete for a conference title this year,” said Zimmerman. “It sucks from not being able to play last year and we lost a lot of experience and practice especially, which makes it hard for the young freshmen and sophomores but the team looks good and the young guys are really fitting in good and they will definitely be a big part of our team this year.

“So just making sure they feel comfortable and ready to play on the big field will be what we need to focus on the most probably, but once they’re comfortable and are able to work with the older guys, we’re gonna be a great team and definitely one of the best, if not the best in the conference.”

Senior Myles Peterson (infield), sophomores Jaden Stuhr (pitcher, outfield, first base) and Nick Malueg (outfield) and freshmen Ryan Malueg (catcher, pitcher infield), Jay Brei (infield, pitcher) and Jackson Krohn (outfield, infield) are among the players that could help fill out the lineup.
