Literacy bags help young students

English Language Learning teacher Lori Johns, right, works with Maddie Ward, Juniper Jensen, and Una Jaksic working on rhyming skills at Oconto Falls Elementary School. These students are showing that they are ready to read in kindergarten next fall. The 4-year-old kindergarten students at the school have had a busy year learning reading readiness skills thanks to Literacy Bags and other materials purchased with grant funding from the Bond Foundation and the Dollar General Literacy Program. Students were able to take home a new Literacy Bag each week throughout the school year that focused on reinforcing readiness skills taught in the classroom. Supplemental materials were also purchased to provide intervention and enrichment activities at school.
