Players from the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy and Gillett/Suring co-op baseball teams were named to Marinette & Oconto Conference teams after strong seasons on the diamond.

Five players from the Lena/STAA co-op, including three from Lena, were honored along with a pair of Gillett/Suring athletes.

Lena/STAA

Lena junior Logan Shallow earned the top honor for his team, being named to the first team as a pitcher.

Shallow pitched in 10 games and logged 43 innings, posting a 2.12 earned run average for the season. He earned three wins and struck out 57 batters.

At the plate, Shallow tallied 19 hits in 51 at-bats. He drove in 17 runs and scored 18 times.

“It means a lot and will motivate me a ton for next year to do it again,” said Shallow of his all-conference honor. “I do gotta thank my teammates though for pushing me throughout the year.”

Lena sophomore Josh Kristof and junior Lane Whiting made the second team. Kristof was honored as a catcher, while Whiting earned the nod as an infielder.

Kristof collected 14 hits in 50 at-bats. He drove in 19 runs and scored 10 times.

“Second team is a huge accomplishment with me being a sophomore, and although I’m honored, it is just a reminder that I still have more room to improve over the next two years to make first team,” said Kristof. “I will come back next year hungrier and more motivated than ever hoping for an even better season than this year.”

Whiting had 15 hits in 43 at-bats, while also drawing 12 walks. He drove in a team-leading 22 runs and scored 15 times. Whiting legged out two doubles and two triples.

“There are a lot of great players in our conference so it is an honor to be selected to second team all-conference,” said Whiting. “I’m looking forward to competing again next year.”

STAA senior Ethan Russell made the second team as a pitcher, while senior Lucas Hofer was an honorable mention.

The co-op finished 7-5 in the M&O to take third. The team made it to sectionals before being eliminated by Greenwood.

Gillett/Suring

Gillett/Suring junior Taron Haak landed on the all-conference second team, while sophomore Keegan Rattin made the honorable mention list.

Haak was honored as an infielder, while no positions were listed for honorable mention players.

“I think it means a lot and being a leader this year I think that means the most to me that I tried my hardest every game and tried helping my teammates improve and get better for next year,” said Haak of his conference award. “And I hope we carry on what we learned this year and improve our record for next year.”

”What it means to me is that as long as I’m willing to work hard and stay in the game, despite what the outcome may be, that great things can still happen and you can be awarded for the great things that have happened,” said Rattin. “This honor can motivate me next year to keep working hard and always put as much effort in as possible to still be awarded for my hard work.”
