Lena Public Library expands Wi-Fi outside its building

In a response to the challenges of COVID-19, Lena Public Library has recently expanded its Wi-Fi access to extend the range outside of the library building.

The new upgrade is designed to help keep the community connected to the internet even when entrance to the building is limited. The Wi-Fi is free and activated 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No password is required to connect.

“We are excited to be able to expand Wi-Fi access to our patrons and members of the community,” said Amy Peterson, library director. “This will allow anyone to safely connect to the internet from their cars and stay socially distant from others during this time. The internet is a very important tool to staying connected, and it is crucial that we are able to offer this free service to everyone.”

The newly installed Wi-Fi access points were provided to the library in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and facilitated by the Outagamie Waupaca Library System.

The Outagamie Waupaca system is a federation of 16 public libraries in Outagamie and Waupaca counties. Each member library is autonomous and funded and governed locally, but contracts with OWLS for the purpose of coordinating and strengthening services. For information, visit www.owlsweb.org.

The Lena library, 200 E. Main St., is a joint library between the Village and Town of Lena. For information, call 920-829-5335 or visit www.lenalibrary.org.

The Nicolet Federated Library System is a state-funded organization assisting its member public libraries, including Lena, in providing better services to the people of northeastern Wisconsin since 1976. NFLS public libraries span eight counties: Brown, Door, Florence, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto and Shawano. For information, visit nfls.lib.wi.us.
