Lakewood library looks to hire general contractor

Lakes Country Public Library’s initiative to renovate and expand is entering a new phase, with the library board asking architect Jeff Musson to find a general contractor for the project.

“To qualify for two large grants, we need a more solid estimate on the cost,” said Kathleen Marsh, building expansion committee fundraising chairwoman.

In regard to fundraising, Marsh told the board that the library has received several Required Minimum Distribution contributions, a method of donating that can lower income tax due.

“For those who must take the Required Minimum Distribution from an IRA, the IRS has what is called a qualified charitable contribution,” Marsh said. “Your contribution will be excluded from your taxable income if you follow IRS rules that require you to direct your IRA custodian to make the check directly to Lakes Country Public Library.”

Marsh also reported that after quickly meeting its October $10,000 donor match, the library needs a little more than $3,000 to meet a subsequent $20,000 match.

“Donations have ranged in size from $10 to $1,000,” she said. “We appreciate every donation, no matter its size and are encouraging people to include us on their Christmas donations list.”

Contributions may be made in person at the library, online at www.lakescountrylibrary.org or by sending a check to LCPL Building Fund, P.O. Box 220, Lakewood, WI 54138.
