Jude Wachtel named new head softball coach at Shawano

Jude Wachtel has been hired as the new varsity softball head coach at Shawano Community High School.

“I am very excited to be named the new varsity softball head coach,” says Wachtel. “I would like to thank coach (Brian) Johnson for everything he did for this program. Being able to coach with him for the last two years at the high school level and learning from him will help me keep up the strong program he has built.”

Wachtel has been the head coach of the Shawano JV1 team for the past two seasons. He has also been a coach in the community youth softball program, coaching teams from 10U to 14U for six seasons. His coaching background includes coaching teams at SCHS in other sports, including five seasons as an assistant football coach and one season as the head coach of the JV2 girls basketball team.

Wachtel views his local coaching experience, especially in softball, to be an important asset.

“I think I have an advantage going into this position. With coaching JV and youth softball, I have familiarity with the players and families in the program,” says Wachtel.

“We are excited to have coach Wachtel take over the leadership of our softball program,” said Joel Wondra, Shawano Community High School activities director. “Jude and his staff take over a program with a solid foundation and a rich history. We look forward to the continued success of the program under Jude’s leadership.”

Wachtel will begin preparation for the spring season by planning open gyms for his athletes and assembling his coaching staff. The season begins with the first practice on March 12, 2022.
