James Mervale Barshaw, 85, of Fox Point, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at the Aurora Zilber Hospice facility in Wauwatosa. He was born on Nov. 17, 1935, in Neenah to Walter and Marcella (Gitter) Barshaw. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1956 at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. His working career was centered within the printing industry.

James (Jim) raised a family of four children with his wife, Shirley (Cotner). Years later, he married his wife of 31 years, Gale (Bresser) Curtis on Jan. 13, 1990, and joined Gale in raising two young sons.

Jim loved his family more than anything else in the world. He was a man of God and had a servant’s heart. If he was your friend, it’s likely he was one of your best friends.

He is survived by his children, Blain (Kathy), Brant (Katherine), Blaise (Laurie Ann), and Belinda (Ty) Simmons; his stepsons, Matt (Sarah) Curtis and Andrew (Lauren) Curtis; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with one more to be born in October.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Hope Community Church, 302 Tristan Drive, Shawano. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. followed by a service at 4 p.m. with Pastor John Anderson presiding. A graveside gathering will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at a time not yet determined.

Donations can be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
