James L. Dobratz

James L. “Jim” Dobratz, 90, Green Bay, passed away surrounded by family at his home on Thursday, June 1, 2023. The son of the late Ewald and Lila (Jensen) Dobratz was born on April 14, 1933, in Bonduel.

Jim attended schools in Shawano, Thornton, and Clintonville and graduated from Bonduel High School. After a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, Jim attended The University of Wisconsin at Madison and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959.

Jim enjoyed a 35-year career with Wisconsin Public Service in Green Bay and Rothschild, retiring in 1995. While in Green Bay he met Mary Ann Stoehr, marrying in 1964. They were later blessed with four children.

In his early years, Jim played softball and bowled and coached and managed both youth baseball and youth soccer programs.

During retirement Jim did volunteer work with several service organizations, attended many of his grandchildren’s activities, and managed to get in some golf. Mary Ann and Jim wintered in Florida and Arizona and traveled the states, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well Austria, Ireland, and Mexico.

Jim is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 58 years, Mary Ann, and four children, Tim (Sharon Roskowski) Dobratz, Paul Dobratz, Steven (Lisa) Dobratz, Jenifer (Jason) Tepp. Grandchildren Dylan, Emily, Drew, Joshua, Kaitlyn, and Olivia Dobratz, Alexandra (Justin) Tepp-Marwitz, Benjamin Tepp, and great-grandsons Randall and Grayson Dobratz.

Jim is also survived by siblings Robert (Ellen) Dobratz, Gary Dobratz, and Karen ‘Sue’ (Bruce) Stutzman, brother and sisters in law Ruth Stoehr, Margaret ‘Peggy’ (Frank) Millhiser, and Roger Kneuppel; as well nieces , nephews, other relatives, and many good friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister RoJean.

Friends and family will gather at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., Green Bay, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9; Memorial Mass to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev.
