James A. ‘Jim’ Winter

James A. “Jim” Winter, 81, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Jim was born Aug. 8, 1939, to the late Curt and Hildegarde (Schoenick) Winter in Shawano. Jim graduated from Shawano High School, then enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army. Jim lived and worked in the Shawano area all of his life. On Dec. 21, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Myrna Grignon at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena.

Jim enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening, especially flowers, spending time at the lake lot and sitting on his front deck at home. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers with his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Myrna; one daughter, Ruth (Andy) Winter; and his cat, Sabrina, aka Peanut. He is survived by his siblings, Richard (Maureen) Winter, Nancy Martin, Mary Wastel and Michael (Paula) Winter. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, Robert Grignon and David (Donna) Grignon; one sister-in-law, Mary Grignon; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Curt and Hildegarde Winter; his sisters, Betty DeCoster and Jeanne Speering; brother, Roger Winter; one daughter, Jenny Winter; father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Josephine Grignon Sr.; brothers-in-law, Robert Martin, Duane Speering, Gary Wastel, Cecil Grignon, Raymond Grignon Jr. and Wilfred Grignon; and sisters-in-law, Mabel Winter and Jeanette Grignon.

A memorial service for Jim was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Nonito Barra officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation.
