Ione Olga (Christian) Fahrenkrug

Ione Olga (Christian) Fahrenkrug, 97, Neenah, passed away Dec. 17, 2023, at Park View Health Center, Oshkosh, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 29, 1926, in Neenah, to the late John and Edna (Langner) Christian. Ione was united in marriage to Carl J. Fahrenkrug on Feb. 11, 1950, in Menasha. They celebrated 40 years of marriage before Carl’s passing on March 30, 1990. She was a 1944 graduate of Neenah High School. She worked as a bookkeeper until she married.

Carl and Ione settled in Sheboygan for one year before moving back to Neenah to raise their 10 children. They remained in Neenah until 1987, when they moved to their retirement home in Cecil.

Ione was an adventurous traveler, camping and birding throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. She passed her love of the outdoors to her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed her flower garden, hiking and playing, cards and going to the casino with her women friends. Ione was a devoted sports fan of her favorite Wisconsin teams.

Ione will be missed by her children, Michael (Donna), Kathryn, Pat (Mike Anderson), Steve (Jean), Don (Julie), Barb (Dave Clausen), Tom (Paula), Brian (Marilyn) and Jim (Lisa Weadge); daughter-in-law, Cindy; 15 grandchildren, Chad, Angie Cain (Josh), Paul (Kelly), Brendan, Ryan, Bailey (Sean Wilson), Sam, Jake (Jennifer), Nick (Elizabeth), Zach (Jamie), Derek (Becca), Lydia, Jared, Mary Ndiaye (Mouhamadou), Brandon; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Ione was preceded in death by her husband. Carl; son David; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Franklin Fahrenkrug, Evelyn Fahrenkrug Vanden Brook, Carola (Elof) Nygren, Gretchen (Edward) Howley, Myron (Rita) Fahrenkrug, Mary (Sylvester) Zielinski, Maurelia (Clarence) Godhardt, Edmund (Helen), Vernon (Arlene) Fahrenkrug and Dorothy (Elmer) Chouinard.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at Congregational United Church of Christ, 1511 Nicolet Blvd., Neenah, by the Rev. Jeannie Douglas. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., with service to follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Park View Health Center, 725 Butler Ave., Oshkosh, WI 54901-8149, to the activities department for the garden and aviary. Ione loved spending time in the gardens and watching the birds in the aviaries.
