Hillcrest Primary School has a confirmed positive case of coronavirus, Shawano School District Superintendent Randi Anderson confirmed on Tuesday.

A letter was sent home to parents letting them know that a positive case was in the school, but that everything was expected to continue as normal. The district is currently having Hillcrest students attend classes five days per week.

Anderson said that she contacted the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department upon confirming the case and was informed that the school would not need to be closed at this time.

“We have been able to identify and notify individuals that would need to be quarantined based on close contact, and we’re going to continue the deep cleaning that we do every night,” Anderson said. “At this point in time, we’re able to stay open.”

Anderson said there are no other confirmed cases at the other three schools in the district.

The letter reminded parents of ways to avoid potentially contracting the coronavirus, like washing your hands, social distancing and not attending any large-group event.
