CROSS-COUNTRY

Shawano teams 1st at meet

The Shawano boys and girls teams each placed first at the Algoma Cross-Country Meet on Sept. 6 in Algoma. The boys posted a score of 24, while the girls had a 27.

Shawano’s Ethan Onesti won the boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 29 seconds. Will Chelberg came in second in 18:45.

Andon Chelberg claimed fifth in 19:45, while Connor Chelberg took seventh in 20:38. Jaymin Boivin capped the team score with an 11th-place finish in 21:45.

Lily Guenther and Bailey Hendricks paced the Shawano girls’ team, placing second and third in 22:22 and 22:30, respectively. Maci Beyer (24:45) claimed sixth, Trinity Popelka (24:53) took seventh and Adalyn Barkley (25:04) was ninth to cap the team score.

Comins leads Lena/STAA at meet

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy had individual boys and girls runners competing in the Algoma Cross-Country Meet on Sept. 6 in Algoma, with Dylan Comins’ 10th-place finish in 21:22 leading the team.

Mason Belongia placed 19th in the boys’ race in 22:27, while Erik Kosch was 24th in 22:52. Reed Hosking placed 27th in 23:22.

On the girls’ side, Haley Van Ark led the co-op with a 39th-place finish in 31:15. Miriam Alberts took 42nd in 32:06, while Chaela Rabas claimed 47th in 33:38 and Kali Fischer placed 50th in 34:33.

Lange represents WRL at meet

James Lange represented Wolf River Lutheran at the Algoma Cross-Country Meet on Sept. 6 in Algoma.

Lange placed 34th in the boys’ race with a time of 25:43.

Witt-Birn boys 13th at invitational

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood boys earned a team score of 321 to place 13th at the Marshfield Tiger Invitational on Sept. 6 in Marshfield.

Craig Wendel led the boys’ team with a 54th-place finish in 20:41.1. Jonas Bushman claimed 69th in 21:20.4, while Mason Meverden placed 76th in 21:45.2. Owen Schultz (21:51.5) took 78th, while Ian Salvesen (22:02.7) was 83rd, to round out the team score.

The Witt-Birn girls team did not qualify for a team score, but Rory Salvesen placed second in 20:31.4. Danica Tomson (25:13.6), Jayden Zeinert (30:25.2) and Amelia Bessert (33:00.2) filled out the team, placing 48th, 85th and 93rd, respectively.

VOLLEYBALL

Bonduel 3

Menominee Indian 0

Bonduel topped Menominee Indian in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division match on Sept. 6 in Keshena, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-17.

Hailee Thompson led Bonduel with 22 assists, 11 digs and eight kills, while Macy Niles recorded 23 digs.

Audrey Weier finished the match with 11 kills for the Bears. Nakiyah Henning stuffed the stat sheet with nine digs, four kills, three assists and three aces.

Witt-Birn 3

Shiocton 0

Witt-Birn swept Shiocton in a CWC-East clash on Sept. 6 in Wittenberg, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-8, 25-18.

Reese Rogowski led Witt-Birn with 10 attack kills, 13 digs and three aces. London Metropulos contributed 15 attack kills and five aces.

Lilly Betry tallied 12 assists and three aces for the Chargers. Payton Foster chipped in 17 assists, seven digs and five aces, while Kiara Deruchowski had seven digs.

Tigerton 3

White Lake 0

Tigerton opened CWC-North play with a sweep of White Lake on Sept. 6 in White Lake. The Tigers won by scores of 25-8, 25-11, 25-13.

Skyler Hauser tallied 15 kills, five digs and three aces for Tigerton, while Abby Swartz had seven kills and three aces. McKenzie Hoffman led the team with 19 assists and also had 13 service points and seven aces.

Samantha Suehring recorded 18 service points and six aces for Tigerton. Jade Selle served three aces.

Gresham 3

Northland Lutheran 0

Gresham swept Northland Lutheran by scores of 25-18, 25-8, 25-16 in a CWC-North match on Sept. 6 in Gresham.

Jessa Jensen recorded 10 kills for Gresham, while Chloe Bohl had seven. Lexi Baddmoccosin-Barnes led the Wildcats with 10 assists.

Maddie Haffner and Josie Cerveny each tallied 11 service points for Gresham. Rylie Kakwitch was credited with nine digs.

Bowler 3

Marion 0

Bowler knocked off Marion by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 in a CWC-North clash on Sept. 6 in Bowler.

Isabella Stevens finished the match with 15 combined kills, nine digs and five aces to lead Bowler. Bertina Dodge tallied five attack kills and five aces, while Ava Paiser had 11 assists, seven aces and four attack kills.

Brandi Spencer also had four attack kills for the Panthers, while also tallying 16 assists, nine digs and five aces. Autumn Thiex chipped in five digs.

Gillett 3

Green Bay West 1

Gillett took down Green Bay West by scores of 25-13, 25-8, 23-25, 25-7 in a nonconference match Sept. 6 in Green Bay.

Hailey Elsner led Gillett with seven kills, while Halle Fisher had 12 digs, eight aces and four kills. Reece Franti also recorded 12 digs.

Cilena Guns and Mia Soper each tallied seven digs and three aces for Gillett. Madison VanHaren was credited with six digs, while Bella Matczak had five.

Shawano 3

Sturgeon Bay 0

Shawano swept Sturgeon Bay by scores of 25-23, 25-12, 25-18 on Sept. 6 in Shawano.

Abby Bystol led Shawano with 12 attack kills, while Alix Heath posted 16 assists.

Sami Richter was credited with 19 digs for the Hawks. Coral Cook served 21 times in the match and had three aces.

GIRLS SWIM

Witt-Birn 93

Clintonville 56

Witt-Birn won nine of 11 events to claim a Bay Conference dual win over Clintonville on Sept. 6 in Clintonville.

Witt-Birn’s Olivia Bessette, Reese Dickman, Faith Resch and Annika Resch teamed up for a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:08.35. The same four also were on the first-place finishing 200 freestyle relay team that had a time of 1:53.89.

Individually, Jessica Storlie won the 500 freestyle (6:47.1) and 100 backstroke (1:15.38) for the Chargers. Annika Resch won the 200 freestyle (2:21.67) and 100 freestyle (1:02.94), while Faith Resch had the top times in the 50 freestyle (27.02) and 100 butterfly (1:12.53).

Dickman had Witt-Birn’s other top finish, winning the 200 IM in 2:27.94.

BOYS SOCCER

Pulaski 3

Mosinee 0

Pulaski blanked Mosinee in a nonconference matchup on Sept. 6 in Mosinee.

Pulaski scored all three goals in the first half. Ryan Drafz gave Pulaski the lead in the ninth minute off a pass from Dylan Carley.

Corbin Tackmier scored unassisted in the 26th minute before Maddox McKeefry scored in the 38th minute off a Hayden Burkel assist.

Mason Baker and Gaven Haldemann were credited with three and two saves, respectively, while defending the net for Pulaski.

GIRLS TENNIS

Shawano 5

Menasha 2

Shawano earned its first Bay Conference win of the season after topping Menasha on Sept. 6 in Shawano.

Jenna Ainsworth (No. 1) and Adison Moesch (No. 2) picked up singles wins for Shawano. Anna Etten and Samantha Martzke (No. 1), Rachael Cooper and Natalee Jung (No. 2) and Ariana Albert and Ava Huntington (No. 3) won in doubles action.

Shawano wins Bay meet

Shawano posted a team score of 192 to win a Bay Conference tour stop on Sept. 6 at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah.

Sophia Eggert fired a nine-hole round of 44 to lead the Hawks and finish second overall.

Teghan Kristof tallied a score of 47, while Braylyn Babino carded a 50. Riley Dreier (51) and Alli Johnson (59) capped the team.

Bonduel ties for 5th at conference meet

Bonduel tied for fifth place with West De Pere with a score of 227 at the Bay Conference tour stop on Sept. 6 at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah.

Sarah Garside recorded a score of 50 to lead the Bears on the course. Kerry O’Harrow tallied a 56.

Thea Tauchen tallied a round of 60, while Gabi Krause had a 61. Raina Dworniczak posted a score of 68.
