GIRLS GOLF

Shawano 2nd, Bonduel 5th at Bay meet

Shawano earned a team score of 206 to place second behind West De Pere (201) at a Bay Conference meet on Sept. 2 at Crystal Spring Golf Course in Seymour. Bonduel came in fifth with a score of 223.

Teghan Kristof was Shawano's top finisher on the day, carding a nine-hole round of 46 to tie for the medalist honor. Sophia Eggert (51), Braylyn Babino (52), Riley Dreier (57) and Elizabeth Kary (66) filled out the five-golfer team.

Sarah Garside (50) was Bonduel's top finisher on the day, with Ava Pleshek a shot back at 51. Kerry O'Harrow (59), Raina Dworniczak (63) and Meghan Wondra (67) also represented the Bears.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Witt-Birn girls 7th, boys 9th at invitational

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls posted a score of 210 to place seventh, while the boys took ninth with a score of 181 at the Marathon Invitational on Sept. 2 in Marathon.

Ruby Nowinsky was the girls' top finisher, taking 32nd in 23 minutes, 56.6 seconds, while Annika Resch (27:54.5) took 82nd. Ava Wepner (30:12.8), Ava Hegewald (30:29.7) and Amelia Bessert (33:07.2) capped the team, finishing 94th, 95th and 103rd, respectively.

Simon Schairer (18:40.5) took eighth to pace the Witt-Birn boys, with Craig Wendel (19:33.8) taking 20th. Mason Meverden was 42nd in 20:38.5, Owen Schultz claimed 68th in 22:26.7 and Ian Salvesen was 72nd in 23:00.6 to cap the team's top-five runners.

VOLLEYBALL

Suring 3

Lena 1

Suring picked up a Marinette & Oconto Conference victory over Lena on Sept. 2 in Suring, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 24-26, 25-5.

Christine Sleeter tallied 13 total kills and three aces to lead Suring, while Kate Mahoney had three attack kills and 19 assists. Bailey Stuart tallied six digs, three aces and five attack kills, with Macie Reed chipping in with four attack kills.

Menominee Indian 3

Tigerton 0

Menominee Indian swept Tigerton in a Central Wisconsin Conference crossover match on Sept. 2 in Keshena. Menominee Indian won by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-21.

Skyler Hauser tallied 14 total kills, 14 digs and had six service points for Tigerton, while Abby Swartz had 14 digs and six attack kills. Elizabeth Robbins contributed 11 assists and nine service points, while Jaycee Hoppe-Schmidt tallied 15 digs.

Wausaukee 3

Gillett 1

Gillett came up short in a M&O match against Wausaukee on Sept. 2 in Gillett. Wausaukee won by scores 18-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.

Katilynn Dodge had six attack kills, five digs and two blocks to lead Gillett. Naomi Anker added 12 digs and served three aces.

Marathon 3

Witt-Birn 2

Witt-Birn couldn't finish off a nonconference match against Marathon on Sept. 2 in Marathon, losing by scores of 18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-12, 19-17.

London Metropulos had 21 total kills for Witt-Birn, while Reese Rogowski posted 19 attack kills. Layla Huffman and Halle Beversdorf added four and three block kills, respectively.

Payton Foster recorded 22 assists and 10 digs for the Chargers. Kiara Deruchowski had 13 digs.

Bonduel 3

Shawano 0

A strong defensive showing from Bonduel helped the team secure a nonconference win over Shawano on Sept. 2 in Shawano. Bonduel won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-11.

Allaina Robaidek had nine kills to lead Bonduel to victory. Nakiyah Henning added six kills, while Kylie Hoffman had five. Hailee Thompson finished with 15 assists, while Robaidek had 10.

Macy Niles led the Bears with 25 digs, with Brenna Hertzfeldt and Robaidek having 18 digs each. Thompson had 15 digs and four aces.

BOYS SOCCER

Shawano 0

New London 0

Shawano settled for a tie with New London in a Bay Conference match on Sept. 2 in Shawano.

Shawano is now 2-3-1 on the season.

Pulaski 6

Marinette 2

Pulaski scored all four second-half goals to down Marinette in a nonconference match on Sept. 2 in Pulaski. The Red Raiders scored three of the goals in an eight-minute stretch.

Joe Wacholz led Pulaski with a hat trick. Trentin Dauk, Noah Jaime and Lucas Stubbe had the other three goals.

Austin Decker, Jack Ryan and Jonah Kochaver were credited with assists for Pulaski. Mason Baker stopped four shots to help preserve the win.

FOOTBALL

Lena/STAA 27

Florence 8

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy scored the game's final four touchdowns to rally past Florence in a MONLPC crossover 8-player matchup on Sept. 2 in Lena.

Lena/STAA's Sam Marquardt threw two touchdown passes to Logan Shallow, while Lane Whiting rushed for another score. Sidney Sylvester sealed the win with a 14-yard fumble return.

Marquardt rushed for 76 yards, while Whiting had 59 rush yards. Marquardt also intercepted a pass.

Oconto Falls 14

Crandon 8

Oconto Falls opened Northwoods Conference play with a home win over Crandon on Sept. 2.

Oconto Falls is now 3-0 on the season.

Suring 34

Sevastopol 6

Suring picked up its first win after rolling past Sevastopol in a MONLPC crossover 8-player matchup on Sept. 2 in Sevastopol.

Suring is now 1-1 overall.

Wabeno/Laona 65

Gillett 0

Gillett was blanked by Wabeno/Laona in a MONLPC crossover 8-player matchup on Sept. 2 in Wabeno.

Gillett slipped to 0-2 on the season.

Pulaski 2

Pulaski dropped a Fox River Classic Conference match to Sheboygan North on Sept. 2 in Sheboygan.

Rylee Miller earned a victory at No. 3 singles for Pulaski, while Lucy Piczkowski and Carlee Elliott teamed up for the other win at No. 3 doubles.
