Gresham 72

Bowler 55

In a game that featured 73 free-throw attempts and five fouled-out players, it was Gresham that emerged with a 72-55 Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division win over Bowler on Saturday in Gresham.

Hannah Cerveny made seven fields goals and converted eight shots at the free-throw line to score 22 points for Gresham. Valarie Cerveny made two 3-pointers and tallied 17 points, while Destiny Reindl buried three triples and scored 16 points. Makayla Belongia also made two 3-pointers while finishing with 10 points.

Kayla Pecore tallied 24 of Bowler’s points in the contest. Brooke Thiex and Alyssa Strassburg each chipped in eight points, while Tynea Johnson had seven.

Gresham made 25 of its 36 shots at the free-throw line, while Bowler was just 14-of-37. It was the third game between the teams since Dec. 19, with Gresham taking two of the matchups.

WRESTLING

Shawano takes third at invitational

Four Shawano wrestlers won their weight classes to help the team to a third-place finish at the Omro Invitational on Saturday.

Ben Carroll (152), Andrew Popp (170), Keith Tourtillott (220) and Nick Kohn (285) earned the first-place individual finishes. Kohn and Popp each went 5-0 on the day, while Tourtillott and Carroll went 4-0 after receiving opening-round byes.

“Ben continues to wrestle at a high level,” said Shawano coach Michael Homan. “Andrew has done a really good job of getting better each week; he is wrestling much better than in the beginning of the season. We look for him to continue that the rest of the way.

“Keith and Nick both continue to do really good things on the mat. They are two of the most consistent wrestlers on our roster.”

Wyatt Brandt (126) placed second for the Hawks, while Noah Jones (138) and Carter Schmidt (145) each came in third.
